Children’s Health and Well-being in Philadelphia

What’s inside

This report was created in partnership with the Scattergood Foundation in the second half of 2019. The goal was to better understand the landscape of children’s health across Philadelphia.

Place Matters seeks to identify challenges and opportunities across the city’s council districts. We ranked the ten council districts by combining both assets and risks using primarily open data. There is variability across districts, but we present the information in a way that can guide decision making. The project also seeks to show the relationship between risks and assets and social mobility and life expectancy.

The research discovered there is a 20 year difference in average life expectancy in different parts of the city. The aim of this analysis is to support a roadmap for Philadelphia to build upon existing assets and work to address inequities in our city.
