Gates is a User Experience Designer at Azavea.

Gates is a UX/UI designer who is driven by human-centered design. His multidisciplinary experience working in an agency setting for the better part of a decade has allowed him to blend his knowledge of traditional graphic design with new technologies to solve problems as they arise. At Azavea Gates is responsible for designing user-centered, accessible, responsive web apps that support user needs and business goals of its clients. 

Growing up a Canadian northerner has humbled his approach and placed emphasis on the importance of community and creating positive social change. Through volunteering, sitting on social boards and committees, Gates has been able to contribute to many facets of his city by using design for good, spearheading events and co-founding a group whose focus is to foster change through advocacy, collaboration, community engagement and other initiatives.

In his spare time, Gates enjoys hiking with his dog, landscape photography, rock-climbing and traveling in his pop-up camper with his partner. He finds importance in discovering new perspectives, places and people.
