Accessing Predictive Analytics from Omega's CrimeView suite

By Azavea on June 19th, 2012

We are pleased to announce a partnership with The Omega Group to bring HunchLab’s predictive crime analytics to the CrimeView suite of products.

For a number of years, we’ve been working to transform academic research from leading criminologists into easy-to-use software that allows police departments and law enforcement agencies to utilize advanced statistical models of crime.  This partnership with The Omega Group will allow us to fulfill our mission of bringing advanced crime analysis routines to even more agencies.

Through integration, Omega customers will first be able to leverage statistical output powered by HunchLab through the CrimeView Dashboard.   Over time this integration will extend to CrimeView Desktop and the mobile NEARme application.

The CrimeView suite will leverage HunchLab’s API (Application Programming Interface) to provide the following analytic features:

  • Statistical Early Warning System (Hunches): determine whether the current level of activity for a particular crime class in a given geographic area is statically unusual based on a defined historic timeframe to create an alert
  • Near Repeat Pattern Analysis: measure the communicability of risk that an incident transfers to nearby locations increasing the likelihood of subsequent incidents in the area allowing for proactive patrol based on predicted short-term elevations in risk
  • Load Forecasting: predict the aggregate levels of incidents expected across different areas of a jurisdiction based on a model that accounts for the time of day, day of week, and time of year (seasonality).
