Esther is a Project Manager on the Data Analytics Team at Azavea.
Esther joined Azavea’s Data Analytics team in May of 2016 after receiving her Master’s degree in City and Regional Planning from the University of Pennsylvania. During graduate school she focused on using geospatial and statistical analysis to answer questions related to sea-level rise, social networks and community resiliency, refugee resettlement, and the relationship between political candidate tweets and demographic data in New York City. While a student, Esther worked as an intern in Antigua and Barbuda studying watersheds with GIS and researching UAVs, at an engineering firm building custom tools with Python, and investigating public health and the new zoning code at the Philadelphia City Planning Commission.
Esther previously studied Sociology at Temple University, during which time she spent a semester abroad in Tanzania. In the intervening years, she managed recruiting of research participants and was an operations analysts under the Americorps VISTA program at a local CDFI.
In a previous life Esther worked as a deckhand in Alaska and hopes to one day return and make it through the winter.
