sourcemap screenshot.pngHave you ever wondered where things come from?  David Zwarg’s research project, Sourcemap.org combines wiki-like editing with public global data that enables any user to create a map of their supply chain. The project's goals are to inform users of where things come from, so they can make informed decisions in regards to all aspects of a product's life cycle. Sourcemap.org started at the MIT Media Lab, developed in the classroom, to visualize global supply chains. The project has grown out of the classroom and into the wild, and David Zwarg volunteers his research time collaborating with the Sourcemap team.  Mr. Zwarg was attracted to the project due to its unique combination of transparency, sustainability, social awareness, and geospatial data.  His work started with upgrades to the mapping interface, continued on to port the database to PostGIS, and is now improving the modeling of the supply chain with multi-modal routing.
