Early Warning: Statistical Hunches

Statistical Hunches are at the core of the early warning system within HunchLab. A statistical Hunch is a saved analysis process that determines if the current level of activity for a particular crime class in a given geographic area is unusual. By applying spatial statistics, HunchLab compares recent incidents with historic data to identify emerging levels of activity that are unlikely to be random coincidence.

HunchLab runs these saved analyses on a regular basis without user intervention allowing analysts to enter Hunches once and benefit from their continual testing against new incident data.
