PhillyHistory Mobile

PhillyHistory Mobile is an innovative method of literally bringing Philadelphia’s historical and cultural assets to the person on the street — through the use of mobile phones, handheld PCs, or the iPhone.

Client: City of Philadelphia, Department of Records

Challenge:  Philadelphia is a history and culture-rich city and welcomes millions of tourists each year. The Department of Records, which maintains the City Archives, wanted to find a way to make their cultural and historical assets more readily available to visitors seeking a unique experience of Philadelphia.

Solution: Accessible via any internet-enabled device, including cell phones, handheld PCs, and the iPhone, PhillyHistory Mobile uses cutting-edge geographic technology to enable the visitor to type an address and view a map of the area highlighting nearby historical material and cultural assets.

Outcomes:  A great tool for locals and tourists alike, PhillyHistory Mobile brings exploration of Philadelphia’s neighborhoods and historic districts to a whole new level. Visitors can enhance their experience of Philadelphia by discovering how buildings, streets, and historical landmarks used to look 100 years ago, as they stroll through the city.
