Detailed maps of planned and proposed development along North Broad Street (a.k.a. Avenue North) help to illustrate the exciting changes taking place and investments being made just north of Center City.
Client: Avenue of the Arts, Inc.
Challenge: Avenue of the Arts, Inc. (AAI) wanted to build on its successful development of a performing arts and entertainment district on South Broad Street by promoting development along the North Broad Street corridor between City Hall and Lehigh Avenue. The North Broad Planning Task Force created a development plan outlining the development opportunities available on North Broad and ways in which the Philadelphia community might direct resources toward their realization. Concerned that their many successes on South Broad Street were overshadowing the changes underway on North Broad, AAI asked Azavea to prepare maps in support of the planning process and to help build a sense of excitement about opportunities on Avenue North.
Solution: Azavea created a series of maps highlighting development along Avenue North. The maps painted a compelling picture of a vibrant community and strong revitalization effort, identifying current, planned and proposed investments as well as cultural and entertainment venues, education facilities, murals, and registered historic buildings.
Outcomes: The final maps were made available through the AAI website to communicate to a wide-ranging audience the investment and development activity occurring on Avenue North. Over $200 million have been invested in development along the North Broad Street corridor since 1998, contributing to and continuing to generate positive change and renewed excitement along the Avenue of the Arts North.
