In The Works

We’ve always got new things starting.  Here’s a taste of what we’re working on this fall:

  • Urban Forest Modeling and Simulation – We’ve rolled out an API and a new iOS and Android app for the OpenTreeMap platform this summer.  We are now working hard to expand the functionality of our urban forestry solution by adding simulation modeling, prioritization, gamification, and support for contests and team collaboration.
  • HunchLab – Look for tools to support conducting trials of different policing tactics.
  • GeoTrellis – Once we complete intellectual property review with the LocationTech working group at the Eclipse Foundation, we’ll be releasing 0.10, which will include a new computation engine based on the Apache Spark project.
  • Transit Planning – We’re working on a really interesting project for two cities in Asia that will provide an open source software solution for public transit planning.  This will be free software for optimizing bus and rail routes and schedules.
  • Watershed Modeling – The Stroud Water Research Center has been awarded new funding to support extension of the Model-My-Watershed project to the entire Delaware Water Basin to support land conservation planners.  In addition, they were just awarded a new round of funding from the National Science Foundation to support extending the project to the continental U.S. in support of STEM education.  This is exciting news that will enable an already successful project to reach many more people.
  • Visualizing Energy Usage – More cities are setting up building energy usage reporting requirements and then publishing the data.  We’re working with one city to turn these spreadsheets of building energy data into eye-popping visualizations that can provide more effective insight into how things work.

Stay tuned for more….
