Coastal Resilience Wins Kudos and Awards

Were you watching the live feed of the UN Climate Summit in NY in September?  No?  Well, if you’d been watching, you would have seen Jack Dangermond announce the winners of the first Esri Global Disaster Resilience App Challenge.  On September 23rd during Climate Week in New York, The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR along with Esri) announced that the Coastal Defense app, a component of the Coastal Resilience tool Azavea has been developing with The Nature Conservancy, won the award for best Professional and Scientific App for disaster risk reduction.   Jack Dangermond, Founder and President of Esri, announced the award in a session on Resilience – you can see it on UN Web TV.  Jack’s announcement is around minute 34 or so.

And on the heels of the U.N. award, this week, the White House highlighted the Coastal Resilience project as part of its U.S. Climate Resilience Toolkit.  Earlier in the summer, the same Coastal Resilience 2.0 application was a finalist in a Climate Resilience App Challenge.   Congratulations and round of applause for The Nature Conservancy and its Climate team for the recognition.
