Things are starting to come together as we put the finishing touches on our most recent office expansion.
Our last expansion nearly doubled our space for desks, but as we grew we quickly began to outpace our capacity for meeting and conference rooms. The entire company used to fit into our largest conference room for things like company-wide meetings and our monthly Brown Bag Lunch series, but that hasn’t been the case for some time. We’ve just barely been able to all fit along the perimeter of that room when we meet for our monthly R&D stand-up, and when we do hold an event or have a large meeting we’ve been setting chairs and a portable projector in the only open space next to our library.
The recent expansion addresses this in a big way. Our new large meeting room is about three times the size of our previous largest room, and is perfect for holding events. In fact, it’s already been used successfully when we hosted the Code for America DataCamp Philly hack-a-thon. This room features a dedicated projector and screen and wheeled tables to allow for flexible seating arrangements for a variety of activities.
In addition to the new large room, we have reorganized our storage and bicycle parking areas, and have added two new small meeting rooms in the process. Designed for teleconferencing, team scrums, and pair programming sessions, these rooms feature 40” monitors, large whiteboard surfaces, and sound treatment to improve the sound quality of conference calls. These enhancements have also been added to our existing meeting rooms to increase their utility.
We’re looking forward to holding more events here in the new space at Azavea headquarters!
