LocationTech, a consortium of open source geospatial projects, organized by the Eclipse Foundation, facilitates a series of events each year known as the LocationTech Tour which we are proud to be a part of. The third annual LocationTech event in Philadelphia was the 2015 Geo Open Source Meetup held this past month and it, once again, celebrated the exciting developments and innovations in geo open source. GeoPhilly, Philadelphia’s meetup for geography enthusiasts, hosted again this year in conjunction with LocationTech.
This event was unique in that it followed the national Js.Geo conference held in Philadelphia. This collaboration was a great opportunity to reach new audiences and capitalize on a full day of fantastic programming.
The speaking line-up for the 2015 Geo Open Source Meetup was exceptionally strong and included the following talks:
- Tom Ingold from Boundless gave an introduction and update for GeoGig
- Whitney O’Meara from RadiantBlue introduced GeoWave
- Diego Gomez Deck from Glob3Mobile provided a broad overview of Mobile Map Technology
- Laurence Liss from Azavea discuss a variety of map tiling technologies
- Gabby Getz from AGI discussed and gave a demo on Cesium
- Chris Whong from Cartodb provided a great demo/talk/hack showing how to make a Chrome extension and inject data into someone else’s map.
This was a collaborative event that showcased a good spectrum of technologies spanning from server to mobile from LocationTech & in the industry in general.
