From the office layout and our monthly Brown Bag Lunches to our benefit package that includes training and continuing education expense reimbursements, we try to create a place where smart people can collaborate more effectively and feel intellectually stimulated.
After six months, staff members are encouraged to develop a personal research program and can spend up to 10% of their time on this. The benefits of the research program are two-fold. It enables each staff person to spend some time working on a project that is not focused on the immediate needs of a particular client. That’s fun and rewarding for our staff. But it also has an important business benefit. Several research projects have been turned into new software tools, have won awards or have enabled Azavea to pursue new business opportunities in areas and domains we had not explored before.
