In addition to carefully selecting the types of projects with which we engage we also operate a pro bono program and give away at least 2% of our profits to non-profit organizations each year.
In the past, the executive team has decided how to allocate these contributions, but in 2009 we started a new system. Now, we ask each member of our staff to allocate the contributions we will make. This is done by giving 10 points to each of our staff members that they could then distribute across a list of organizations that matched our areas of priority.
Now, everyone at Azavea has a chance to decide what charities they would like to vote for. Some of the organizations we supported through our “Time to Give Back” and pro bono programs are:
