casinofree_logo.pngWhen the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania legalized gambling in the state, a controversy erupted over the selected sites for two new casinos in Philadelphia. Many people felt that the proposed sites were too close to residential neighborhoods in Fishtown and South Philadelphia and wanted to see new ordinances passed to limit casinos to less populated locations. Hallwatch and Casino-Free Philadelphia  asked Azavea to develop a series of maps that would help explain to legislators the depth of opposition that existed in neighborhoods adjacent to the proposed casino sites.
