How many indicators can Kaleidocade hold? Thousands. Kaleidocade has no set limits on numbers of indicators or resource points (resources, services providers, etc.), and (depending on the expected load and server hardware) in most cases you’ll push the practical limits of how much the end user can absorb before you exceed the system’s ability to serve data. Some of our clients have more than 300 indicators in their Kaleidocade-powered systems, and with records for every place for every time period at every geographic level, while some have more than 4 million rows of data. Kaleidocade has been engineered to deal with extremely large amounts of data and still remain incredibly fast. Learn more about some of our clients.
Does my data need to be geocoded or geographically aggregated already? No. Some of our clients already have data that’s organized geographically (e.g. by census tracts, zipcodes, counties, etc.) or the ability to easily get it there, while others elect to have Azavea do the geocoding and aggregation tasks as part of a professional services agreement.
How do I get my data into my Kaleidocade-powered system? If Azavea will be doing the aggregation or hosting, we’ll most likely load the data for you. If your organization has the technical expertise on staff to get your data into our Kaleidocade data model, we’ll provide the database schema and associated documentation and assist in the loading and validation process.
What geographic areas can Kaleidocade cover? Kaleidocade can be used on any scale from a neighborhood to the entire world.
Can Kaleidocade be customized to match the branding of my organization? Yes. Most organizations want their application to reflect their own logo and branding. Kaleidocade has a skinning and styling system that enables the look and feel as well as the terminology and text to be adapted to each organization's needs. Learn more about customization within Kaleidocade.
Can Kaleidocade be customized to include a custom feature particular to my organization's needs? Yes. While Kaleidocade is a defined web solution, it can be customized in some ways. Please let us know when we start discussing the scope of your project.
What configuration options does Kaleidocade offer? Kaleidocade offers hundreds of configuration options. For example, Kaleidocade can be configured to require registration by users or not. Azavea will work with you to set up the initial configuration to how you would like your system to be used. Please visit our Customization page for a more detailed list.
Can Kaleidocade’s data be integrated with another web site? Yes. Kaleidocade can be configured with a series of web services that allow a different way of interfacing with the data. Instead of analyzing data in the Kaleidocade web application, you can use the web service endpoints to generate content for any of the major analysis components (maps, tables, charts, etc). This allows live Kaleidocade content to be embedded in external applications. For example, an article in a content management website focusing on a particular indicator could include a map showing a geographic perspective of the data. But rather than a static image, which could potentially become out-of-date, the content site would actually make a request to the Kaleidocade Web Services and the current map image would be returned.
Does Azavea provide training on how Kaleidocade works? Yes. Some organizations want to have formal training on how Kaleidocade works and how it is administered. Please let us know when we start discussing the scope of your project.
How much does Kaleidocade cost? We work within every budget because every organization is a unique case. Please visit our Purchase page and download a preliminary questionnaire to tell us about your organization’s needs or contact us directly at info@Azavea.com.
Will my organization have to host the application or will Azavea take care of it? You can host your application, but if you don’t have hosting resources, Azavea can provide hosting for a fee. Our hosting fee will vary based on the number of expected users, since that will effect the amount of equipment and bandwidth we will need to reserve. Hosting includes providing network, electricity, cooling, equipment, backup and troubleshooting when things go wrong. It also includes installation and ongoing maintenance.
