Calculation and Visualization Engine

Behind the easy point-and-click interaction, DecisionTree relies on a robust calculation engine: Azavea Raster Grid (ARG), a raster file format optimized for speed of processing and storage.

Instead of running a single operation, ARG uses a distributed calculation system partitioned into dozens of concurrent jobs. It was specifically created to support reliable calculations on large data sets. Calculations are handed out to 'workers', which can run on multiple threads and on multiple machines, then re-assemble the information.

The result is viewed as a heat map to enable users to quickly see optimal locations for their activities based on their choice of criteria.
